Writing Content For Websites: 6 Do's And 1 Don't

They say that a facial expression is worth a thousand words. This is especially true when writing for the web, as we never see each other face to face. The intended tone of any site content is, in itself, a writing skill - more so than in novels, as the content writer is trying to convey a definite message directly to a worldwide audience, without the help of facial expressions, tone of voice or body language.

Have you ever wondered why some websites pull people in better than others? Or why some websites have better bounce rates that others? Is it due to the style of writing, or simply the interesting content?

How often have you read online content, then had to read it over in order to fully understand what the writer is saying? I'm not including tutorials or online lessons or courses that don't require too many words - it goes without saying that website content have to be clear and concise to guide the reader.

7 Writing Tips to Improve Your Web Writing
You don't need to be an English major to write for the web. As long as you know how to write, you are halfway there.

Do - Short and Less, Win the Race
Avoid writing a sentence that is longer than a line. Use bullet points if necessary to list something or add an attractive graphic to replace a long sentence. You can break up that boring mass of black type by using lists, block quotes and other handy HTML formatting tricks.

You can also have a mixture of bold and italic styles to add emphasis to the words. The other thing that you should take note of is the punctuation. Excessive use of punctuation can make the sentence harder to comprehend and could put a reader off. A sentence should be short, sweet with as little punctuation as possible.

Do - Use Killer Headlines and Avoid Flamboyant Vocabulary
If you write a great headline, you will have a higher chance of getting noticed by your readers. As the headline is the first sentence to reach your audience, it's essential to have a killer headline. Killer headlines also work really well with social media sites to get more buzz. Write a great headline, which is striking yet descriptive, but make sure it's not too long. Having a good headline, (9-12 words) with appropriate keywords will also help you rank better in search engines.

Refrain from boring your readers by using limited vocabulary, you do not need to use grandiloquent vocabulary in every single sentence you write, but some occasional use of different vocabulary will make your site more enjoyable.

The purpose of writing is to communicate, not demonstrate your intelligence. The best way to communicate is to use short, clear words that are part of everyone's vocabulary. That's why most newspapers are written to a fifth or sixth grade reading level. Using a word such as "grandiloquent" does not make you appear smarter. It makes you appear pretentious and harms your ability to communicate.

Do - Utilize Headlines and Breaks
A site page or blog post should read similarly to this article, with a main heading, followed by an introduction paragraph or two. Ideally, it should be followed by a sub-heading and break down to further smaller headlines. Headlines act as important signboards for the reader to determine if they want to read the content below the headline, so the headline should describe as accurately as possible the subject matter of the paragraphs. It's also hard to read a large chunk of text without a break.

Give those sentences a break and segregate them into small paragraphs as frequently as possible. It will make them more readable and give readers a chance to catch their breath before continuing to the next paragraph.

Do - Use Suitable Images Sparingly
I know that humans are visual creatures and like almost all things that are beautiful. However, you need to select your images carefully in order to suit your content and the intended meaning. Don't use an image just for the sake of using it. If you can't find any suitable images to describe what you want, don't use one.

Adding suitable images not only brings an extra dimension to your webpage but can also reduce many unnecessary words yet assist your readers to better understand your website. The adage of a picture can paint a thousand words definitely works here.

Don't - Obscure References, Jargon or Jokes
Your readers won't be laughing if they don't get what you mean. I am guilty of this more than anyone. Worse still, if it offends them. Writing for the web basically means that you will get many readers from everywhere around the world. The differences in culture, background and religion may sometimes mean that you have to be very careful with your selection of your jokes or references.

Replace any obscure words with other similar examples that are more generally acceptable and known by the majority of people. You might also want to take note of the type and topic of the web page you are writing about. Refrain from using industry jargon unless you are absolutely sure that your intended readers will know it. You can introduce the jargon and spell out each abbreviated phrase before using it.

Do - Test Your Readability
Web writing is all about readability. Make sure that your type is in an appropriate size, color, and font. Do not use a fancy color or overly small or handwriting fonts. When you insert links to other areas in your web page, remember to keep them relevant and don't overuse them. Quoting and attributing from other sources is nice and brings you credibility, because readers know that you've got nothing to hide if they want to check you out. However, a webpage full of links will appear spammy to readers.

Try to link those URLs to the relevant proper names, keywords and phrases, rather than having the URLs themselves written out, or worse, the over-used "click here." The trick here is to use a standard web safe font, color and size. Do your comparisons between popular websites and blogs and experiment on what is the best for your site.

Do - Write For the Human Reader
As all good web writers will tell you, write for the human reader rather than for the search engines, so avoid using repeated emphasis keywords in your content. Spell checking your content is not enough. You have to read it yourself again to make sure it flows smoothly. You may want to engage a proofreader to maintain the quality of your writing and handle the grammatical and punctuation issues.

A web page, blog or article full of grammatical errors will affect your credibility and reputation. Don't overly rely on the proofreader to edit all your work though, you must start to learn from your mistakes in order to write better content in the long run.

"Great 8" Must Haves of Any Web App

There are thousands of web developers out on the market and not all are created equal. When planning to create a custom web-based application there are 10 things that stand out in my mind about what really is important and cannot be ignored in developing software. There will be some that disagree with this list, but isn't that the point in the first place?

1. Speed
First and foremost, I believe that speed is more than a feature. Speed is the most important feature. If your application is slow, people won't use it. I see this more with mainstream users than I do with power users. I think that power users sometimes have a bit of a sympathetic eye to the challenges of building really fast web apps, and maybe they are willing to live with it, but when I look at my wife and kids, they are my mainstream view of the world. If something is slow, they are just gone or telling me they need a new computer.

2. Less is More
Less is more, unless you are talking about Generation X'ers reliving the glory days at a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. For web development, I really believe this, particularly early on when you launch something. Over time, you can grow the utility of your service. Facebook today probably offers 20 or 30 different features of significance in their service, but when they launched, it was really quite simplistic. I think that is true of most great services.

SIZE DOES MATTER! (And Smaller Is Better)

We live in a world where we are constantly judged by our possessions: the size of our house, the size of our boat, the length of time to first byte. But let's be honest, performance is where it really matters!

A few weeks ago we made adjustments to our website that decreased the overall "heaviness" of each page. What a difference it's made in performance. Heavier web pages load more slowly into web browsers. I am sure you have visited a site that was slow loading and sluggish to the point where you wanted to toss your computer. Depending on the site's hosting environment, this could occur for many reasons. In many cases it's due to the site itself.

Web usability can be affected by poor hosting, heavy pages, or even just a plain old ugly site design that shouldn't be live on the web. Whatever the cause, if a website is slow (or ugly), usability is lost.

One of the core benchmarks of success for a professional website is the little talked about bounce rate. With a heavy site, many of our site visitors were simply visiting one page on the site then heading on; however, since we've decreased our size and improved our speed and performance, they're sticking around for an encore. When I say sticking around, I mean it; we've seen the overall site bounce rate drop by an average of 20%. In a world with a average bounce rate over 50%, that tells me that we've got a lot more happy site visitors!

The Ingenux team has a new intern! Matt Johnston, an Edmond native, joined the Ingenux team in early March for a wonderful three month internship.

Johnston is a senior at Advanced Academics, an online high school. Next year, he wishes to attend UAT to major in computer programming. He aspires to be a software developer and wishes someday to be on the front lines of creating the newest and most advanced technologies. His main goal is to someday own his own software development company.

While at Ingenux, Johnston has learned how to properly create an html template and has improved his knowledge on his techniques and web languages. Johnston wishes to learn how to work together with a team and further improve his skills.

Is the Customer Always Right?

I have read so many articles about this topic over the years. It is what we were grown up on, a phrase that has to be more figurative than anything else, or there would be no businesses, profitable ones at least.

I have no problem whatsoever with the premise of the articles, but I've come across far too many small businesses that view this age old saying "the customer is always right" as a lone justification for taking abuse at the hands of life sucking customers. I believe in a better saying that allows customer and business to work together. The Right Customer is Always Right.

Now, here's what I mean by that. There is absolutely nothing wrong, in fact there's everything right, with building a culture of making the customer thrilled at every turn, but you can't adopt the mentality without two things firmly in place first.

Have you ever thought about what happens when you surf the web and have to wait on a webpage to open? It's not as simple as it seems. Yes, there are thousands of websites out there that look like they were developed by a barrel full of color blind monkeys. They are slow just because they were developed like a 2nd grader's papier mâché project. Others think their computer is broken or just blame their spouse. However, people really don't know what happens when you hit GO after typing in www.shopbop.com. Below is a step by step explanation of how a webpage is rendered into a browser.

1.
You type a URL into the address bar of your preferred browser.
2.
The browser parses the URL to find the protocol, host, port, and path.
3.
It forms an HTTP request (that was most likely the protocol).
4.
To reach the host, it first needs to translate the human readable host into an IP number, and it does this by performing a DNS lookup on the host.
5.
Then a socket needs to be opened from the user's computer to that IP number, on the port specified (most often port 80).
6.
When a connection is open, the HTTP request is sent to the host.
7.
The host forwards the request to the server software (most often Apache) configured to listen on the specified port.
8.
The server inspects the request (most often only the path), and launches the server plug-in needed to handle the request (corresponding to the server language you use, PHP, Java, .NET, Python, etc.).
9.
The plug-in accesses the full request, and starts to prepare an HTTP response.
10.
To construct the response a database is (most likely) accessed. A database search is made based on parameters in the path (or data) of the request.
11.
Data from the database, together with other information the plug-in decides to add, is combined into a long string of text (probably HTML).
12.
The plug-in combines that data with some meta data (in the form of HTTP headers), and sends the HTTP response back to the browser.
13.
The browser receives the response, and parses the HTML (which with 95% probability is broken) in the response.
14.
A DOM tree is built out of the broken HTML.
15.
New requests are made to the server for each new resource that is found in the HTML source (typically images, style sheets, and JavaScript files). Go back to step 3 and repeat for each resource.
16.
Style sheets are parsed and the rendering information in each gets attached to the matching node in the DOM tree.
17.
JavaScript is parsed and executed, DOM nodes are moved, and style information is updated accordingly.
18. The browser renders the page on the screen according to the DOM tree and the style information for each node.
19.
You see the page on the screen.
20.
You get annoyed because the whole process was too slow.

I, too, get annoyed when the above steps take longer than one tenth of a second. But now at least I have some documentation to look at, while waiting the remaining fractions of a second before the page renders.

Apple Announces iPad

On January 27th, 2010, Apple Inc. announced their newest device, the iPad. The iPad is a casual, mobile computing device that some say will revolutionize the way that we surf the internet, read books, and the way that we think of computers in general. While this sounds exciting, how accurate is it? Ingenux cuts through the hype for you.

So what does it do? The iPad is a casual computing device capable of reading eBooks, checking email, surfing the internet, and more depending on the applications you load onto it. It has a multi-touch screen, like the iPhone. The screen is 9.7", in full color. It has a 10-hour battery life, and uses a solid-state hard drive instead of a hard disk. Its functionality should be expanded by access to Apple's much-lauded App Store.

eBooks
While not specifically designed for it, the iPad will work as an eBook reader. This puts it into direct competition with Amazon's Kindle Device, Sony's eBook Reader, and Barnes and Noble's Nook Device. Of these three competitors, only the Nook has a color screen. The Kindle and Sony eBook reader devices employ a technology called eInk, which goes to great pains to simulate the look and contrast of actual black ink on white paper. Apple has eschewed this concept in favor of a full color backlit screen.

The iPad is loaded with features compared to other eBook readers. It comes standard with a color screen, speakers, headphone jack, microphone, support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, and a SIM card slot for wireless broadband access. Not to mention, the iPad supports a long list of file formats that its competition in the eBook market simply doesn't address. Further, Apple is applying the lessons learned through its iTunes online music store to an online iBook store.

Internet
The iPad won't come with free wireless connectivity, like Amazon's Kindle device. However, it will come with a SIM card slot for wireless, mobile internet access. This makes the iPad a credible competitor for netbooks like Dell's Inspiron Mini and Asus' EEE PC. Also, the 10-hour battery life of the iPad wipes the floor with most netbooks. The iPad also features a multi-touch interface, weighs 1.5 pounds, and can be used in either landscape or portrait format. The accelerometer in the device automatically registers the position in which it is being held, and adjusts the screen accordingly.

Still, netbooks are full-fledged (if tiny) computers, with full Operating Systems. You can load programs onto most netbooks yourself, as you wish, unlike the iPad. Which brings us to the next point.

App Store
If all the iPad did was read books and surf the Internet, it wouldn't be quite so interesting. But you can also expand its usefulness by downloading applications from the App Store, which makes the iPad not only more entertaining, but more useful as well. The problem is, you can only download applications from the App store. There's no other way to load programs onto the device, limiting its utility significantly.

Casual Computing
What is casual computing? Think of it as computing from the couch. The iPad seems like a natural fit for this style of computing. The iPad weighs about the same as a hefty paperback with the outside dimensions of a magazine.

Drawbacks
The iPad isn't perfection. Some have pointed to the lack of a phone in the device as a serious flaw. Others have mentioned that the iPad does not support Flash, rendering a large parts of the Internet unusable. Some critics have also mentioned the lack of a camera as being a puzzling deal breaker.

More seriously, the iPad does not support multitasking. This means that you can't listen to music while surfing the internet, for example.

Conclusion
The iPad looks devastating as competition for eBook Readers and netbooks. Apple is saying that the future of computing is about portability and ease of use. To some, that lack of flexibility is a hindrance, but to others, it's the entire reason that they are looking forward to the iPad.

After all, sometimes all you want is to check the news, read a book, or listen to some music. And it doesn't necessarily require a decked out desktop computer or a massive laptop to do it.

The iPad begins shipping in March, with prices starting at $499.

Ingenux Further Develops Internship Program

Pacifique Mahoro- Development Intern

Ingenux launched an internship program last year and we have been fortunate enough to have another wonderful intern. Pacifique Mahoro originally from Rwanda joined the Ingenux team in early November for a 3 month Development Internship.

Mahoro is attending Oklahoma Christian University under a scholarship sponsored by the Rwandan Government and studying Computer Science with a minor in Management. Ingenux Broadens their Volunteer Program

December 22nd, 2009 -The Ingenux team expanded their volunteer outreach this holiday season by preparing a home cooked meal for the children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Oklahoma City.

The Ronald McDonald House encourages the local community to help their non-profit establishment by providing dinner for their residents. Ingenux prepared a Mexican themed dinner that included enchiladas, tacos, and quesadillas and each team member participated in the preparation of the meal for the families. Several employees dressed in ponchos and sombreros to be festive while other sombreros were set on the dining tables, filled with sweets for the kids.

“This was a wonderful team building experience for us but most importantly the opportunity to do something for those families facing difficult days was very heart warming,” Ingenux Customer Liaison, Brynn Mays, said.

Show Me the Data: Protect Yourself from 3rd-Party Data Feed Failures

With the Web 2.0 era in the rear view mirror, I wanted to touch on an aspect that was heavily played and still continues to this day. Integration of 3rd-party data into websites. However, the popularity and ease of use for many APIs and the portability of Web 2.0 applications has an underlying side effect, if not integrated properly. I have come across many websites accessing 3rd-party data from places such as Flickr, Twitter, etc. that are not following the basic principles and the lack thereof should raise the question, "what happens if these 3rd-party services fail?". Many sites are not applying the appropriate contingency design plans to allow continued functionality during a failure. Caching data calls to APIs is just an example of good contingency design. In fact, many APIs will require caching - like that of Amazon - but, I suspect this is intended to help limit resource use of the API host, not the site using the API. The reasons a person using API-accessed data on their website should cache are:

1. To speed up the website's load time
2. To have a back up plan if the API call fails

A simple implementation to handle these two cases would be one that caches an API call for a given amount of time and one that freshens stale, cached data and triggers an error should an API call fail.

This post is a bit late to the party but is worth writing as I have recently come across at least three sites where Firebug and other widgets have revealed issues such as retrieving API fetched data and sluggish site loading times. A decent implementation idea would be to roll your own caching wrapper and plug it in to a stable caching tool, perhaps something like Cache Lite for PHP. In this manner, you have a reusable, caching library independent piece of code that can handle caching/flushing and refreshing of data, which could function to handle the two cases discussed above.

Within two weeks, Ingenux was able to collect 294 food items along with cash donations totaling $725. The cash donations alone will provide hungry Oklahomans with 5,075 meals. Ingenux is proud to say that last year's goal was surpassed with an astounding outcome. Food and monetary donations were collected by Ingenux staff from three multi-office complexes in Edmond, Oklahoma."We are so grateful to those who contributed to help fellow Oklahomans this holiday season during a time when money is tighter than usual," Ingenux Production Director, Brandy Semore, said. Every month a breath of new web design projects filter into our company. As our core expertise and business focus is custom web and software application development, my attention is more distant with regards to corporate design now-a-days. However, my eyes caught a project in the works and I thought to myself "When does minimalist web 2.0 design go too far?" What I mean by that is how clean and clutter free can a website get until the allure of the service or product falls by the wayside? There is definitely a happy means or "Zen" that needs to be reached during the design process.In web design, minimalism refers to the use of the smallest amount of images, colors, shapes, values and lines. The site is stripped down to the fundamentals required to convey the message. Minimalist web designs generally rely on type and simple shapes to do the communicating. This minimalist approach has evolved in some circles as the basis of web 2.0 design. The backbone of the web 2.0 era that ushered in blogs, videos, podcasts, wikis and online communities where people with common interests get together to share ideas, media, code and all types of information was meant to be more - not less, but designed in a way where information is easily accessed on a clean and simple layout. This is a far cry from the "massive content, image heavy with more features to shake a stick at" era which for the most of us, is a recent memory.

As Ingenux reached its 10-year birthday recently, we have seen many fads or "the next best thing" come and go related to the internet. The new "thing" is cloud computing and if you haven't jumped on this bandwagon yet, here are the top 4 reasons why you should look for sunnier days.

1. Cloud Computing makes your IT excessively dependent on the InternetCloud Computing exists on the premise that the Internet will always be as robust and reliable for all time to come. While one can be fairly optimistic, there is always the danger of the unforeseen Armageddon. For example, congressmen in the United States are pushing for bills that can shutdown/limit internet traffic in the event of war, so that they can stick to their prescribed content on television. If a company loses internet connectivity to its cloud even for a few days, as a result of an Internet outage affecting either it or the Cloud Computing Service, there could be very damaging consequences. I am not talking about your E-store going offline. Suppose the daily activities of your company were on a database on a cloud? In such a scenario, you may wish your servers were in a makeshift bunker in your backyard, rather than on the cloud.And because of its dependence on the internet, Cloud Computing can never perform as a substitute for in-house servers. For example, there are speed limits, related to hardware and bandwidth, when transferring data to and from the cloud via the internet. Using VPNs and SSL tunnels can further slow the speed.

2. Cloud Computing makes you dependent on the goodwill of your ISPCloud Computing may require large bandwidth for the client, depending on what the client is hosting on the cloud. And the same ISPs who are clamoring for bandwidth caps may charge an arm and a leg if the client exceeds his or her bandwidth quota.

3. Cloud Computing is sounding more like a Fad than a TrendSuddenly, all ringers, gurus, and experts are clamoring for Cloud Computing. Articles are appearing in respectable publications weighing the pros and cons. Business heads are flaunting how they managed to cut costs. Are you willing to "invest" your data in the newest scheme?

Donations Collected for our Military

We were able to collect almost 100 items to donate. If you would like help our military contact the Edmond Chamber of Commerce. Needed items include games, stationery, traveling toiletries, and so much more.

Ingenux Internship Program

We have launched an internship program to provide students a first-hand look at what it takes to create an IT solution from start to finish.

This is a unique opportunity for students to develop their portfolio and to gain valuable practical experience.

"Our program is altered to fit each student’s course of study and allows them to focus on the skill set they need to build and improve in order to market themselves upon graduation," said Brandy Semore, Ingenux Production Director.

The internship program has already welcomed its first participant, Chun-Yuan Chang, a student at the University of Central Oklahoma.

“I like the Ingenux project review process the best, it really helps to make my work better,” Chang said. “I’m very glad I’m doing my internship with Ingenux and am enjoying everything.”

Chang is working as an intern in the design department under the direction of the design manager and is creating website designs while establishing an understanding of the industry’s business module and methodology.

"We are excited about this opportunity to work with talented students and we hope to provide a solid foundation for which they can build upon," Semore said.

In speaking with thousands of business owners over the years, it is amazing how many business owners make the exact same mistakes over and over again. Many business owners don’t plan and assume their same success offline will transfer over to the world wide web. I have accumulated the top 4 re-occurring mistakes by business owners below that I have seen over the years. Making one or all of these mistakes could cost a company thousands of dollars initially, and take away from tens of thousands of potential dollars they should be making monthly from their website.

1. Done too early!
The biggest mistake most small businesses owners make is getting their website done too early. A smart business owner will first research their target audience in their specific Internet market, and only then build their website around their research.

A business owner needs to get training on how to find a target web audience in a specific niche market. They need to determine which keywords their website needs to be designed around, in order to bring in customers from search engines and other sources. A huge mistake made by business owners is they get their website formed around very broad keywords which have too much competition.

2. Pay too much or too little!
Most web development companies quote very high prices on web and graphic design, and most small business owners make the mistake of going with those companies. They charge for flashy features that will never bring in traffic and will never make the website any money.

Here's a simple question. Would you rather hire someone that charges $10 per hour and takes 50 hours to complete an assignment, or someone that charges $50 per hour and takes 10 hours?

There was a time when industry leading web developers would not have thought twice before confirming that Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) was the world’s leading web-browser. MSIE's popularity is driven by its leading support for new technologies, it's ease of use, and it's integration with the world's leading operating system, Microsoft Windows.

However, since the introduction of Mozilla's 'Firefox' line of browsers, these views of browser dominance are significantly changing. In 2002, prior to Mozilla's introduction into the web community, the MSIE line of browsers accounted for 83.4% of web-surfers on the net. One year after its introduction in 2003, Mozilla was offering a browser that supported many of the same features as MSIE. 2004 saw Mozilla take off in the internet community accounting for 16.5% of web-surfers on the net.

Since the rebranding of the Mozilla browser line to the new "Firefox" family, they're support and loyalty has continued to thrive. In 2006, Firefox 2 was released, this latest edition from Mozilla saw added support for the majority of MSIE features as well as several features that MSIE did not have at the time, including the ever-popular "tabbed-browsing". Within a year of its release, Firefox had skyrocketed to nearly 40% of web-surfers preferred browsers, while MSIE's popularity had stumbled to 56%.

2008 saw the release of the latest version of Mozilla's Firefox browser, Firefox 3. This version is nearly interchangeable with MSIE and provides additional security features and, what some have come to refer to as "true css", which allows for better interpretation of website coding and smoother more accurate renderings of what designers intended their websites to look like on the web. By the end of 2008, Firefox support had reached new record levels, accounting for 44.4% of web-surfers on the net. This milestone is considerably more significant than any before it because it marks the first time since MSIE's inception that has not held the majority of support. MSIE's share of web-surfers came in at 45.7%.

This year, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8, this new version has a slew of new features to better compete with Mozilla, including reported support of "true css" rendering. Only time will tell what effect this will have on the overall market, however, we can report that as of April:

*MSIE (All versions) accounts for 42.1% of web-surfers on the net.
*Firefox (All versions) accounts for 47.1% of web-surfers on the net

While we certainly recommend continuing to include MSIE in your website design plans, however it looks like Firefox may now be bringing the majority of traffic to your website.

In just two short weeks Ingenux collected over 650 pounds of food, as well as $ 250 in cash for donation, to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Ingenux set a modest goal of 250 items to help feed families during the Thanksgiving holiday; this goal was shattered by the collection of three times that amount.

“I’m dumbfounded by the work you all have accomplished: this is a great job!” said Jack Miller from Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, about the success of the Ingenux food drive. “You all should pat yourselves on the back.” Food and donations were collected from Lee’s Crossing, Le Cour and Le Chene office parks from November 10-21. The combined efforts of participants resulted in an astounding 2,300 people being fed.

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is a private, 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that acts as a link through which the food industry and community may donate food and other goods. The products are then distributed to nearly 700 schools and charitable feeding programs in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. In the last fiscal year, the Food Bank distributed nearly 25 million pounds of food and product to help the charitable community effectively feed people in need. Since its inception in 1980, the Food Bank has distributed 293 million pounds of food to feed Oklahoma’s hungry.

Ingenux recently donated a custom website to the annual Edmond Chamber of Commerce auction fundraiser. The University of Central Oklahoma was the setting for the live and silent auctions where nearly 300 people enjoyed dinner and bid on a variety of items donated to the chamber.
